I am amazed each time I contemplate God’s direction in our day-to-day lives. Psalm 37:23 says, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way.” I truly believe there is no coincidence in the life of a Christian.
Kuna Yala in Panama is an archipelago comprising approximately 365 islands of which only 49 are inhabited by the Kuna Indians. A beautiful place, albeit very primitive, Kuna Yala is not easily accessible. We either have to fly in or drive over rough mountain terrain that only a 4X4 can maneuver and then take a boat to the island we want to visit. It is not a place we would expect to find lots of tourists.
Not long ago, I was teaching a seminar in one of the small island villages. Alexis, a middle-aged man, accepted Christ as his Savior. The next day he brought a couple and introduced us. To my surprise they were on vacation from Russia in this tiny, remote village.
They seemed happy to meet me and very friendly. They spoke a little English and Spanish, so we conversed in a mixture of the two languages. After talking for a few minutes about different things, I began to tell them about Christ. They listened attentively and asked many questions – completely open to the gospel; something they had never heard before.
At the end of our conversation, we said our good-byes and turned to leave. Almost immediately I remembered one last Spanish/English messenger in my backpack. I carry these audio devices to distribute among the indigenous since they are basically an oral culture. It is a solar/battery-powered MP3 player that contains 3 sections: the first section has 35 messages, the second has 30 principles of life and the third is the oral New Testament. I turned back quickly. “Wait a minute. I have something for you!” I called. I explained how to use the messenger and gave it to them. “Thank you so much,” they replied graciously.
I never saw the Russians again. God brought this couple by divine appointment all the way from Russia to this island, so they could hear the gospel. Proverbs 16:9 says, “A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.”
The seminar ended, and I left the island the next day. I am praying that they will listen to the messages and accept Christ as their Savior. I fully expect to see them in Heaven one day.
