June 30 Prayer Letter

Dear Friends,

Although scattered around the world, we have been able to see our three children recently. Lathan, our older son (Captain – USAF; stationed at the Pentagon) was able to spend four days with us in Costa Rica. All of his old buddies and the church people were glad to see him as well. Richard, our younger son (Ist Lt. – USMC; Cobra pilot) is slated to deploy in August to Europe/Middle East. We spent a few hours with him last week. Rachel, our daughter (photo-journalist with SCORE International) is recovering from her third knee operation and is traveling extensively throughout the Caribbean and Central America. She spent last weekend with us in San Ramon and was warmly received by her old church friends.

We continue to see phenomenal spiritual and numerical growth in the church in San Ramon. Iglesia Bautista El Calvario is actively engaged in building and developing the mission churches that we support. The joy of seeing souls saved, lives rescued, and homes restored more than compensates for any expense or time given to these ministries.

We will perform a “double-wedding” this Saturday, July 5th. Two Cuban couples have been saved and joined our church. They were married in Cuba by a government official, but were not permitted to have a church wedding. Now they wish to renew their vows in our church as a testimony of their faith in Christ to family and friends. These folks are like “spiritual sponges”, soaking up everything they can learn about Christ and His Word. We, who have enjoyed liberty all our lives, do not know how to appreciate the blessings that so many others cannot enjoy.

Lynn and I will celebrate 30 years of service in Costa Rica this year (1978-2008). You, as a faithful prayer partner and financial supporter, have made it possible for us to reach hundreds of people with the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. When we stand before His throne in that multitude of believers from every tongue, tribe, and nation, we will rejoice and give thanks to God for our partnership—you, on the home front and us, in the field—working together to bring the gospel to others! May God bless you all!

Working together for Christ,

Russ and Lynn Turner (Costa Rica)
