August 2008 Prayer Letter

Dear Friends,

“Pastor, my cousin and his wife need the Lord. Would you go and visit them?” was the request from a lady in our church. Later that day I sat down in this couple’s living room, gave them the plan of salvation, and led both of them to Christ. They have attended church services ever since their conversion and are growing in their spiritual walk with the Lord!

After a church service, I will often walk by a Sunday School room and see a teacher and student with bowed heads in prayer. That young person is finding the most precious possession ever offered—eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. What a privilege and opportunity we have in this city of approximately 100,000 inhabitants to preach the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ! However, our efforts are not limited to the city of San Ramon. There is continued growth in the mission churches we have established. Literature is being distributed in other areas of Costa Rica. Hispanic missionaries that we support are building churches in other countries. The youth of our church are reaching out to the students of the local universities. We claim the promise that the Word of God will not return void, but will accomplish the purpose whereunto it is sent. (Isaiah 55:11).

Thank you for being the home base of this evangelistic thrust into the darkness. We need your constant prayers for our ministry. Thank you for the financial support which enables us to pay bills, purchase tracts and Bibles, buy gas for the vehicles, cover household expenses, and build churches.

Please keep our children in prayer before the Lord. Our younger son, Richard, deploys in late August on the USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7), an amphibious assault ship, to the Mediterranean and Middle East. Lathan, our older son, continues to fulfill his tour of duty at the Pentagon. Rachel, our daughter, works fulltime with SCORE International in journalism, photography, and overseas mission team efforts.

The Great Commission is still our Lord’s command and our heart’s desire!

“…All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost; teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.”(Matthew 28:18-20)

Working together for Christ,

Russ and Lynn Turner (Costa Rica)
